So I have an 03 Ranger 4.0L FX4 and I am looking to swap out for a new clutch and slave cylinder. The kicker is I want to do it myself. I am wondering how hard something like this will be.. i have basic knowledge of my truck and mechanics the same.

I also would like to get some recommendation on clutch kits for my ranger that improve towing and that are more heavy duty per say.

Thanks.

Your clutch is bad or you are looking to upgrade? I installed a LUK (dialaclutch.com) about 6 years ago and have towed and wheeled with it--buried it in mud and water and it's still in great shape.

If you haven't done a clutch before I would get the assistance of someone who has. Some of the bolts holding the tranny to the engine are tough to get at. Getting the slave hose off can be tough--and expensive if you screw it up. Bleeding the system can be tough. Getting the exhaust crossover out of the way can be a real bear. Getting the tranny back in can be tough. It's 130# about and if you don't have an instinctive feel for the thing you can suffer some serious frustration holding the faces parrallel while you engage the splines and slide it together. There are just a lot of little things that if you have done them before, they are no problem.
