A few members posted wanting a seperate forum for lowriders so here it is.

Now that we created the forum, lets see what's out there. Let's see pics of your lowered truck.

I am lowered, not bagged or juiced - static 3/4 drop. DJM in the front and axle flip in the rear. I had 17X9 Cobras in the front but they hit my shock mounts so back to the deer hooves - lol. Still running the 17X10 Cobras in the rear cause I think they look awesome. I wish I could find some narrow 17" Cobras to go up front . . .

Anyway here she is chillin at the lake in North Texas . . .

Static dropped 5/7 with DJM beams and springs upfront then a flip kit and blocks in the rear. Running 17s all around with no rubbing unless i hit a big bump. After market headlights, tail lights, corners, billet grill, and stereo.

Audio: Kenwood head unit, 10" Kicker comp VR, and JL components

Future plans: bagged laying frame, two 10" subs in the cab, tv in the passenger dash, paint, solid back window, headlights and corners and the list goes on

Hmmmmmm - I haven't thought about that - I will have to look into it.

Has anyone done this before?

My only other option would be to get spacers.

Thanks for the idea . . .

My current project. 1992 standard cab. Gravity Werx front brackets with Slam RE7's up front. Rear parellel four link from SD with rear lift bars. Firestone 2600's on rear. Watts link to keep axle centered. 306ci, T-5, 3.73 limited slip rear. It's a project in the works, but it lays frame!

Basically laying frame is what it is. The frame lays on the ground. Backhalfing is cutting the frame off behind the cab and rebuilding it from scratch.

Body droping can be a few differnt things. But in general its choping the body at the floor and lowering the body to the same level and in some cases lower than the frame and filling in the voids with sheetmetal. Thus layin the down to the pinch which is the body seam under the door where the body panels were welded from the assembly plant.

I hope this answers you confusion colin.

Ryan_1313, here's a recommendation for your truck. I'm sure it can look TONS better with just a few time consuming but cheap mods.

1. Paint the mirrors, windshield wiper arms, and "argent" part of your grille a matching OR contrasting color. (Gold looks good, but needs something else to make it "POP OUT")

2. Get clear corner lights. Nothing sticks out more than a sore thumb, and those things right now say you've got a king sized blister on the fingerprint.

3. Nightshade (VHT paint) the White and Orange parts of your taillights.

4. Shorten your antenna. Somehow that long chromie sticks out to me and it's attention getting in the wrong way.

I'm sure someone here can photoshop these things onto it and that will give you a good idea of what I'm talking about.

Btw, I'm jealous that you have a Texas truck. That thing probably has NO rust on the underside.

I do like the current stance aLOT!!!

insanejughead, thanks for the help, i've been thinking about most of the same stuff. now its more a matter of saving the money :shok:, anyway my plans for the truck consist of but is not in order of the following:

1. paint the front valance, and the grille black(for now, hopefully a billet grille soon)

2. shave the antenna completely.

3. smoke the taillights and third brake light.

4. window tint.

5. wheels and tires(probly 18's, if anyone has good ideas for wheels suggestions are appreciated)

6. headlights and clear corners plus HID lights.

but from what i read we are pretty much on the same page, which makes me feel better that i've got decent ideas.

Ryan - I don't know how I missed yours - nice Ranger. I am a tad North of you (4.5 Hours so to speak - LOL). I did what you are wanting to do and more. I think the antenna GONE gives it a cleaner look, but people hard notice it unless I tell them. Then they go "Oh wow - I didn't notice that" "DOH!" My headlights and corners came from e-bay and have driving lights in the but not HID . . . good luck with the build and keep us posted.

Jughead - YES Texas Rangers are Rust Free if the are taken care of, but sucks though if I decide to go North I will have to undercoat as I have NONE.

They SHOULD at least give me a discount. I bought the stocky there just a few weeks ago. Haha.

I don't know, it depends on if the funds are available and I can find a cheap way of painting it to match.

When I go up to find rims for the Windstar I'll check it out.

Ryan - I don't know how I missed yours - nice Ranger. I am a tad North of you (4.5 Hours so to speak - LOL). I did what you are wanting to do and more. I think the antenna GONE gives it a cleaner look, but people hard notice it unless I tell them. Then they go "Oh wow - I didn't notice that" "DOH!" My headlights and corners came from e-bay and have driving lights in the but not HID . . . good luck with the build and keep us posted. nice, you'll have to let me know if your ever down this way for anything, or if you know of any good car shows around. as for the shaved antenna and the clear corners i just think its going to give the truck a good "pop" factor:bling:.....i've never minded drawing attention:taunt:

Things are different already, but these are the latest pics.

Currently:
3/4 DJM and flip, Eagle 15's with General Altimax 215/60 skins. I do a lot of highway miles (255,000+ on the been-there meter), so I need high mileage rubber. K&N cold intake, throttle mod, air muffler and intake horn removed. APC seats on brackets I made. 1200w through a single Sony 10" sub in a custom box that is centered between the seats. Soon to be a full center console to house two 10" subs. All clear corners.

(sorry if the pics are too big)

The Gen III and up Rangers have a 2" wider rear end. The disks add even more IIRC. The shock mounts and springs all match up the same though. I have a GenII rear in my '96 and won't go back. I am close to rubbing too, but different rims/backspacing can fix most problems.

How did you do your rotor swaps and what size rim has to be run to clear them?

James

rat_ranger
12-16-2008, 08:17 PM
The rear I used the caliper bracket from northracecarsand the cobra soft line. the front I got the hubs and caliper spacers from a guy that goes by racin' ranger on RPS. you have to run atleast 17s to clear the brakes so I have a 17in steel for spare. in the front of an Ibeam truck you have to have the newer spindle that has the bolt on calipers. Total for the entire brake swap was abut 1300, thats for rotors, brackets, the new hubs and adapters, new front bearings(figured might as well while it was apart), cobra lines for the rear, calipers(these could be cheaper as I used new 10th ann. calipers) and fluid. it al bolts on, you just have to drill the hole in the front line out to 7/16 for the mustang banjo bolt.

He's still on I-beams. But he had custom tublar mounts for the upper bag brackets. Its a sweet truck. I give him alot of credit because he built that truck outside in the elements. I have a full shop and my progress on my truck is slower than my box turtle in the winter!

Have you tried the Pro Comp 55's in the valance? The lense fits perfectly in the hole. I had them in mine, yeah they worked well, but I couldn't get enough angle on them to aim them properly. You would have to shave the inside of the valance around the light hole.

Here's my lowered ride... it's not a Ranger, but...

I like how it turned out, especially considering it only cost $30 to lower it.

It has a 5.0, AWD, and Explorer 8.8

The back seats are folded down for photographical purposes, but were always kept up otherwise.

What did you do for lowering that Explorer? I'm guessing cranking the torsion bars to lower the front, and shackle/hangar flip on the back. If the components needed (for a distant future potential project) were to ever fall into place I would like to play with lowering a 5.0 AWD Explorer chassis.

#1
03-22-2009, 09:25 PM
Lowering the Explorer was easy...

You guessed right about the front - I just took the adjusting bolts out and the keys rested up in the crossmember. You will need a camber kit also before an alignment, the kit is about $30 at parts stores and installs real easy, or the alignment shop can do it.

The rear of the Explorers have the spring under the axle, so I bought a cheap block kit from AutoZone. The hole on the block for the centering pin needed drilled out just a bit bigger, otherwise it was a simple installation.

nice, i can finally see what its gonna look like before i do mine, the only thing im unsure of is whether i want to remove a leaf spring because it would be nice for it to be level looking, but then again i dont know if its gonna cause alot of harm, the most i haul is an atv in the bed and an atv on a very small trailer, and they way it is now it barely squats hauling both those, thanks.

constant_projecttruck
03-22-2009, 10:27 PM
I dont know aabout removing leafs...ivenevr heard of anything coming out of it. Especially for hauling I would def flip the hangers first or flip the axle over the springs. Those leafs will sag quickly if you alter them at all.

doorgunner
03-22-2009, 11:46 PM
warning***warning......the short, fat, bottom overload leaf keeps the truck from squatting with a load in the bed----don't mess with the springs by removing any "leaves" if ur gonna carry anything heavier than ur wife/girlfriend!:icon_surprised:

I don't know about those mono-leaf springs...............at least the factory ones SUCK. Buddy of mine had them on his Ranger and any time you put more then 100lbs the back started to sag. I've had fridges in mine with little suspension drop.

DO NOT REMOVE ANY PART OF THE SPRING PACK! Been there, done that, bought the shirt, used shirt as rag while I installed new springs.

constant_projecttruck

with a shackle flip and axle flip you will get 5 - 7 inchs of drop...plus you can always add blocks if you'll clear the frame and bed.

Not to mention, in most areas, the law states you most have atleast a drivers side door mount mirror and a windsheild mounted rearveiw (as long as the rear window isn't obstucted, in which case you must have a passenger side mirror as well)
At least it's law where we live constant_projecttruck. I don't know how your Black one ever passed the safety without mirrors.
