hard steering while locked in

Is there a such thing as a high performance power steering pump for a ranger?
My truck does not always want to turn since I put the 35"SX's on it while it is locked in. The steering wheel stops and the belt squeeks a little, but it's as if it don't have enough pressure/power to turn it or something?

Any ideas????? (besides belt tension)

It's always hard to steer a locked front end. You have good traction and do not need the locker. Put in a stronger steering system, and you'll break stuff. SOMEthing has to give. It's supposed to be the dirt/mud/whatever under the tires, but failing that, wouldn't you rather have the belt squeal a bit, as opposed to an axleshaft breaking?

There was another guy who put a saginaw pump on a 4.0. He's got a small "write-up" on car domain. But here's what I did on my 2.3. I will be swapping this over to my 4.0.

The only other option is an AGR pump. They are expensive and are basically a souped up stock pump.

considering the fact that he's trying to turn 35 inch tires as opposed to say what, 28 inch tires that it came off the line with, yeah i'd have to say that maybe he needs a little stronger pump. it could be that his pump might be going south on vacation and he just didn't notice it until he put the bigger 'feet' on. as for breaking stuff, that's the chance you take when you put oversized stuff on your ride, you just have to justify it by re-inforcing what you have. that is also why they have axle upgrades for lifted trucks running lots of power and or lower gears, so that you don't break stuff. and since he is after all asking for opinions, this is just my opinion, FWIW. right or wrong if it was me, i'd upgrade to a pump off of an F150, providing that all the fitting matched up. i've never dealt with ranger stearing so i don't know if that is feasable or not. i have however seen guy's back home swap out stearing box and pump from Fseries pick-ups into broncoII's that have been lifted with no adverse side affects. basically if i understand the guy's problem he just doesn't have the pump pressure to turn them oversized tires.

The steering gear box is actually the same on both a ranger and f-150.

Maybe you have a problem with your steering system?

I have no problem turning my 35s on a locked front, and my steering is bone stock.
