Mounting Different Sized Speakers than Stock

I have a 1993 regular cab ford ranger, and I want to put in some nice 6x9 speakers where there is 6x8 mount. I put in my Pioneer 6x8's into the door panels yesterday, and now I want to tackle the rear, does anyone know how to do this, or could link me on where to do this. Also, would the stock speaker cover work with this too, cause if not I will scrap this plan, I want the truck to look no different from stock without opening anything.

Depending on the depth of the speaker, you could just flip the speaker around, lay it flat on the metal of the cab, and trace the outline of it including the location of the mounting holes, then progressively cutting away at the existing hole until your speaker fits in there nice and flush. take it slow to avoid cutting too much material

if you have enough depth you can use a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade to cut the hole out then use a die grinder to smooth any rough edges. :icon_thumby:

If I remember right, when I had the covers off of mine (extended cab) the speakers were't too much smaller than the cover.

I'd have to say just take the cover off and have a look at the size. It is only 4 screws to get it off.

no 6x9 will not fit behind the stock cover, and the magnets are too deep to fit in the rear hole. You can remove the cover and braket that hold the stock 6x8 in place then make a wood spacer to hold the 6x9 and use the 6x9 grill. you will still have to cut the metal in the rear to do this, and wrap, or paint the spacer to make it look good. The fronts are easy just use a 6x9 hole template to trace the hole, then cut it. The template comes in the 6x9 box. dont trace the outside of the speaker that would make the hole to big, and the speaker would fall through.
