im thinking of putting a cat back system on my 94 2.3. I was going to go with flowmaster 40 muffler and 2.5" pipe. Has anyone else got this setup on a 2.3? Did you notice any power or mileage gains, or just an improvement in the sound? I really don't care about how it sounds as much as how it performs. any input is greatly appreciated! :) thanks.

I have the exact same setup you're describing except I had the Magnaflow instead of the Flowmaster. Now I've got a Thrush Turbo Muffler. It runs great like that and sounds good too!

you wont achieve any power or economy gains with any cat-back system....just do it for the sound or save your cash.

is the flowmaster not better flowing muffler than stock? just for a different sound? i really just want a little more juice out of this thing. any other ideas that don't cost an arm and a leg? Thanks.

its a little more complicated than just "free flowing", but in short, no, no aftermarket exhaust systems are going to help with power...your engine has larger restrictions than the factory exhaust...such as the throttle body or the heads and ports.

horsepower costs money...theres no way around it.

biggest bang for your buck probably be regearing...or even a simple (and complete) tune-up.

I just gave it a full tune up about 2 months ago, but i was thinking about regearing... it's got 3.73 gears now, what would be the best gears for a dd?

If you want a good sound, a turbo muffler does fine. They are cheap too.

4.10's and a 2.3 are a perfect match.
