Hey guys,

I'm in the process of buying a bass boat/trailer. I think it's a relatively lighter one @ about 1,800 - 2,000 lbs. I have a tow hitch on the bumper which say it can tow up to 2,000 lbs. but I'm not sure if I should get an after market receiver hitch that I can mount to the frame for more towing capacity. I also don't have any wiring harness that I can see. Can anyone suggest an after market tow kit (if I need one) and something I can do about getting a wiring harness back there? Is there an adapter I can get to attach to the brake lines or something like that?

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a '96 ext. cab manual trans., 4.0 liter, 4WD.

Thanks,

Dave

There should be a wiring kit for your Ranger.

You'll either have the round 7 plug or flat 4 plug.

I would go with a seperate hitch, and not use the bumper.

Reese is always a good brand to go with.

Your local parts store or tractor/farm supply should be able to get these parts per application.

x2 on the class 3 hitch, wiring kit you can get pretty at any autozone, advanced auto parts. Its easy to install. Took me about 25 minutes.

walmart should have a plug and play setup that goes between the bed tail light harness and the chassis harness connectors, takes about 2 minutes to install...

And thats only if the plugs are fighting you and not wanting to come apart.

DON'T USE the splice connectors that squeeze on the wires and use a little pin to pierce each wire. Those connectors plus just one winter of exposure to road salt results in about 8 feet of corroded copper wire.

yeh I agree on the plug and play for the lights. it takes more time to wipe the dirt off your back from laying on the ground that acctually unpluging it and plugging it back in.
