i was setting the time on my truck getting it ready for the mufler shop and noticed a little dribble out of the bottom bolt on #1 cyl.:annoyed:checked it with a tqe. wrench and it was a little lose,my book(older than hell chiltons) says finial tqe. is 70.
the reason i bought those high a$$ gaskets is i didnt want to fool with it 2 times.........headers have to come off.........back on the drivers side sucks.

should i go back and check them ?

(yes ...i already know the answer to my own question but i thought i would ask any way,go back and check them numbnuts)

Check them. Unfortunately it is alot more work than typing the word "torque" and that seemed to be a bit much for you. It will be fine though. Just an excuse to kill some time in the garage and gain experience.
 
If you've got a roller block those lower head bolts need thread sealer, the holes go all the way into the coolnat jackets.

i didnt type "torque" because i didnt want to type "torque".(damn grammer po po...po po is police by the way:bye:)
when you drop a v-8 in your truck and change everything from the front bumper to the rear........call me.i was just bitching about having to do it.o buy the way baddad misspelled a word in his post!

its saturday night..........no kids...........and i want to .."wrench" on the wife..:hottubfun:

baddad......its a 70's block but i still used sealer on the bolts.
 
Make sure to use a tqe wench don't wanna wrench too hard and break ur bolt :shok:

Whats the number? I built a 454 powered Dodge Power Wagon in 1997. A 350 tuned port injected CJ-7 in 1999. And now I am into bike engines (they are more challenging to build properly).

The power wagon was like this, but not shiny.

Fel-Pro reccomends 70 ft-lbs and then go back and do the top five to 80. If you reused the stock head bolts, that might be part of the problem. They are "torque to yeild", good for one time use. They get streached to their limit and lose their clamping ability. (not always) but use the ARP bolts to be safe and sure.

The torque to yeild bolts were introduced in the mid 80's. The earlier bolts can be reused.. As for retorqing gaskets, I never do that. I also do not use the Printoseal gaskets. The expanded graphites and permatorque blues need no retorqing.
 
i used the blues myself.i checked and they are all at 80.still got a dribble.ran it around in the yard for a while didnt get worse so ill go with it till i get the exhaust on then ill fix it.

jason,i dont want to get in a pissin contest with you but when you were 7 years old i was building atc 250r's.i could spell the word "torque" when you were sitting in your own crap!
but ...i bet the old powerwagon was an awesome build!

Why is it when people say they are not starting a pissing contest, they start a pissing contest.

I don't give a crap if you are old. I now alot of people that do alot of things. The best ones are never the ones that have been doing it the longest. Just because you did something when I was a kid does not mean you did it well.

Are you guys done now? What year was that power wagon? I had a '39' Dodge with power wagon painted on the hood only because it had a 283 Vette motor in it.

It was a 1947. Big, heavy, PERFECT!! It was the anti-green mobile before green existed. :D

And copperhead, if you used the really good fel-pro gaskets, you may be able to just re-torque them. try it out and see before you tear into that engine for no reason.
