Hi folks, new to this forum. Seems that I recently lost one of the 2 keys that I had with my 2001 Ranger. Do I need the dealer to program a new key for me or is there a way to do it myself ? As I said, I now only have one key.

TIA

well u can take it to a dealer and have them program it or i also heard there is a combo ex. put the key in turn it backwards tap the brake 3 times, left turn signal, turn the key to on. not sure there is a combo but i heard about it from a ford mechanic. a few years back. i would take it to the dealer anyway.

I think you have to have two keys to program one with the combo, there are instructions in your owners manual.

It is $25 for the key + labor (negligable) to program it at my local dealership, I had my brother (he works there) do it over his lunch hour for my F-150.

That is if you have the big PATS key with a chip in it, PATS may have still been optional. So if you have the smaller normal sized key any hardware store should be able to get one for you.

Thanks for the replies guys. 4x4 is correct. Got home & checked manual...says 2 working keys are required to program a 3rd or more. I'll have to bite the bullet & get one made.
