I got a lot of great response from my first post about the '53 Jeep, but I still would love more input.

I've basically got 2 good ideas at this point, and would really like advice about which is best...

One is to use an early 80's bronco w/ a 302... everything else he has will pretty much work.

OR... us a newer explorer (with the computer and everything else of course).

Quick rundown of the vehicle now:
'70's era 302, competition clutch, 4spd, 4:11 gears.
4bll Holley, with customized jets.

so I see a lot of pros/cons on both of these. I like the old-school power of the older bronco and how easily the customized carb would fit. But I also like the new 5.0L explorer, the fuel injection, the economy, the possibility of getting a power chip in it.

Also, I have come across another possibility. I can get a complete T-bird... mid-90's with a v8. It's not a 5.0L... a 4.9? I'm not sure at this time, but could get it for about a couple hundred bucks... anything worthwile there?

Tell me something I don't know.

Thanks,
Cody

are you looking into an engine, or a complete frame swap? I've heard that putting early willys on explorer platforms is a fairly popular thing.

It all comes down to your technical knowledge. If think you can get the newer injected engine set up, go for it.
If you question your ability, might be better to just go for the carbed engine.

in the tbird, the engine is a 4.6 modular 2 valve. It will put out about 200hp and between 260-280 ft/lbs depending on the year. Note that these engines have larger external dimensions than a 351

it looks like you're looking for an engine setup for your engine... an injected engine or a carbed engine will do better foe that...
