I can get the diesel out of an 83 ranger.. would it bolt up to the 5 spd in my 91 ranger 4wd? I think it is the Perkins model

Rob

well idk the answer two your first question but you are right it is a perkins diesel made by mazda i believe its a 2.2l

The Mazda diesel will only bolt up to the 4 spd std or 3 spd auto that was offered in the Rangers from 82-84. This does not rule out building an adapter plate to match the diesel to your 5 spd though.

Ive read that Mazda's diesel Ranger was an 86 model and it was a 2.3L with will bolt to any transmission option that the ranger came with at that time.

The Mazda diesel was available from 82-84. 2.2 litre non-turbo. It was replaced by a Mitsubishi 2.3 litre Turbo in 85-87 model years.
The Mazda engine is sometimes called a Perkins (incorrectly) as a merger between the companies occured in the 90's. It was a Toyo Kogo engine when produced.
The Mazda engine is fairly underpowered, although I have seen a couple that were aftermarket turbo'd that are respectable.
The Mitsu, while not being a real powerhouse itself, was a far cry better. They can be turned up easily, I have one out of a 85 Ranger transplanted in a Dodge D50 that is putting 97 hp to the ground (dyno'd 2 weeks ago) stock engine with only a few turns of the scewdriver on the pump. I did have a reworked pump and injectors in it previously, but was afraid of breaking it.

i have an 85 ranger 2wd with a 2.3l diesel and an 83 2.8 v6 4x4. will the 2.3 bolt to the 2.8 transmission and t case? how can i make this work?
