I have noticed that from 2003 to 2004 3.0 rangers, they cannot get the same cold air intake. What is the difference in years that they need to make a different model...the engine is built the same isn't it?

as far as i know its the same. ford may have changed (relocated or added) something in the engine compartment that makes the two years incompatible.

FYI, you know your truck already has a true cold air intake on it, right? adding one of those K&N kits is more likely to cost you power and economy, rather then improve it.

I think it because in '04 Ford made the MAS part of the upper air box instead of the old style where its a separate unit

I agree, save your money!!! The OEM filter, and intake will already flow more air than the engine can pull. Matter of fact, the same filter is used for the 2.3L, 3.0L, and 4.0L. What ever you do, stay away from the K&Ns, all they will do is pass more dirt and oil than the OEM paper filter.....
