I have been a long time fan of the Ranger Station, not sure why I never joined before.... Anyhow, my 2005 Ranger has got some serious issued that have me completely baffled. At idle it runs extremely rough and has a distinct missfire. When RPMs above 2000 runs perfect(slight loss of power). Most of the time when I idle the cel will start flashing and I have no power; it feels like it is running on 2 cyls. Then suddenly it is like it wakes up and all power returns. I have replaced all spark plugs, wires and coil. I have cleaned the MAF and throttle body. I have even ran seafoam through. When I pull the codes I get random missfire det., missfire detected cyl #4, missfire detected cyl.#5, and missfire detected 1st 1000 revs. I am completely baffled by this and really appreciate any help you guys might be able to lend.:icon_cheers:

I recently replace my coilpack hoping to fix this issue. How do you test an idle air control valve? I tested the throttle position sensor and it was good. Now I wish I would have purchased the extended warranty. I guess hindsight is always 20/20. LOL

i was having that problem on my 04 ranger 3.0 and my oil pump quit. the gear that runs the pump shattered. i would take it somewhere and have it checked imediatly.

Misfire between 2 cylinders sounds like the wires might have got mixed up or are arcing out.

I could agree with the wire issue, I had a simillar problem with my old 86' Toyota pickup and it turned out to be the TPS. Pain in the ass man. lol
