problem after changing tranny fluid

After i changed the filter and fluid in my 4 speed auto 4x4 tranny, the tranny will heisitate and then jerk into gear. does the fluid have to get worked into the gears or did i do something wrong?
 
Check the fluid level. If ok, you either cut a o-ring on the filter or didn't put the o-rings on the filter.


You DID put the o-rings on, right ??
 
yea i checked the level after i let it settle and it was low. the chiltons book called for 3 quarts in the tranny but i had to put in 5 to get the level up. It runs fine now.
