rear main seal installer?

In my haynes book it says there is a rear main seal installer tool available at most hardware stores. I just went to murrays and autozone and neither have seen this tool. I was wondering does such a tool exsist? If so were can I get one? Thanks

If you have a socket big enough, that's what I use most of the time. Is the engine in the truck or pulled? Sometimes you just have to do it evenly and very carefully with a hammer. I just replaced one on a 2.9 that way.

im in the process or pulling the motor now. I have a new rear seal on there from a few months ago but it still leaks. I have a big fealing it has to do that that spring falling off the seal. When I put it on last time I put a board across it, and used a rubber hammer to put it on. Looked like it went on straight. It was flush against the block. Im gonna use some emery cloth and go over the crank and see if I can get a seal installer to put it back in.

dude,i wouldn't do the emory cloth deal it may leak worse.i usually clean the shaft with clean white lint free cloth w/a little mineral spirits.dry off and lubricate shaft w/clean oil,slide the seal on and gently tap into place.deep well socket the size of the seal should do it.the spring does have to stay on the seal to work correctly.good luck.

Before you sand the surface, see if FelPro makes a sleeve/seal combo for your motor. The sleeve goes on the crank, and provides a new surface for the seal to go against.

Can anyone tell me if the rear main seal on a 2.9 Ranger should be installed flush with the block or is it supposed to be inset again the shoulder. Thank you for any help Rob.
