Here's the situation: I'm pulling our engine so as I can replace the rear main seal and last night when I took off the headers and y-pipe I discovered that burn through and corrosion are already penetrating the ceramic coating. These are perfect headers, JBA, though not the stainless steel versions, mild steel and I had cleaned them up real good set them to a coating business in Delaware and they again sand blasted them and coated them. The company wasn’t too bad on price, but I really don’t want to have to go through the process of shipping them off and getting them back again. I did call the company today and asked about their warranty and they said it was only on the coating itself as in if it was done wrong, but that they might trying to work something out. I’m supposed to call back and talk to the owner tomorrow. What about jut cleaning them up again myself and also having them glass beaded and using VHT paint (Very High Temperature Paint) to re-coat them. Has anyone ever had experience using this paint?

I thought about that, but I'm already use to pulling the engine and I'd also like to go ahead and replace the o ring in the oil filter adaptor, which I forgot when I had the engine out…and now there is nothing there….I didn’t even realize it had one:bawling:

now, what wouldn't you count on? Do you think I should just go with the VHT paint?

the VHT.especially if its relatively cheap.
on the 2.9l isen't the sealing ring made from copper?
The rear main seal? There could be copper in it, I don't know. The one I am replacing it with is reinforced with what looks like steel, much better quality.

I used VHT on my exhaust on my xs1100, it is holding up, been running it for 4-5 months now, the only problem is some discoloration, you can see it in this video. The black got 'lighter' and is not glossy at all

I just glass beaded the exhaust and sparyed it

No rust, corrosion or heat marks of any kind?

I'm not a 100% sure myself Rick, I've posted the question in the 2.9 Liter section. Hopefully we can get a quick reponse. I think the only metal ring is on the bolt that goes through the adaptor and into the block.

:icon_thumby:Well, the good news is this, I just spoke with the owner of the company that ceramic coated my headers and he informed me that during the time period of October last year, the month I had ours done, they had been using bad chemical for the coating process. He found out in February, and I'm one of only a few who've had problems. So I’ll be shipping them back to him tomorrow and he’s going to redo them
