What is the IAC?

Dumb question. I've searched for a definition. What is the IAC on our trucks? My 2.3 is running rough. Lots of posts to clean the IAC. Not sure what that is.

idle air control solenoid. attached onto the back of the throttle body. when you take it off be careful of the gasket (it can be re-used)..
