Hey tomorrow I was going to load 1170 pounds of granite in the back of a 2001 ford ranger, 4x4, 4.0 engine. Do you think this might be too heavy and should I rather use a trailor?

It will be fine, be careful. We've hauled 2k of rock in my dads 89 2wd 2.3 ranger and 1.5k of scrap quite often.

I've hauled 1300 lbs in the bed of my truck a few times. I didn't even feel the weight back there. The truck accelerated normally as it always does. The suspension felt a bit softer, but that was about it.

Thanks a lot. This will save me a few bucks because I don't have to rent a trailor.

I had to pick up 1600 lbs of concrete once and because the driveway is about 8% and the store was so close, I decided to do it in two trips. It would have easily done it in one. I would recommend to put the weight as far forward into the bed as possible, as to keep the ass end of the truck from sagging so far- and making the front axle light. Steers easier that way but harder to control with no weight up there.

A lot depends on gear ratio and if auto or manual. Autos are always rated with a higher towing capacity.

I had a weeks worth of gear, two dirtbikes, me and a friend in my truck. Figuring 900 pounds or so in the bed plus us in the cab, 2005 2.3L stick, drove to Kentucky (around 1100 miles, freeway, mountains, the whole works) and back, the truck didn't mind it. Another 260 pounds in the bed wouldn't concern me too much.

The trucked carried the granite flawlessly. I wish I could have said the same about the granite. Comparing the granite to my floor tiles shows they really don't match. I guess I'll have to be really creative with the cabinet stain to help.
