What are better? KC daylighters or Hella 500's, OR? For $100 or under. As front AUX lights.

I've always heard that Hella's were better, but I've never tried either myself.
I used a cheap-low-budget-brand set from Wallyworld. Haha.

If you're just looking for auxiliary lights, get the Hellas.

A buddy of mine has the KCs and they're too bright for anything but dedicated offroad use (they certainly do pierce through the darkness though).

X2.. strictly off road: KC Daylighter. Legal for on road, with off road capabilities: Hella 500's.

1 last thing the "kc" are pin point lights. they dont spread the light out. that was why i had 4. i dont know about the others.

I use the Pro Comp 55 (55watt) with a fluted lens so it diffuses the beam a bit, like a driving light.

Here is what they look like http://www.oconeeoffroad.com/servlet/the-7052/Pro-Comp-55-Watt/Detail

I did not buy mine from there, that is just the first place that came up on a search. I bought two lights and a wiring kit for under $80 if I remember correctly.

I fabbed my own brackets from angle and welded them to the frame. Nice and bright, I have them aimed low so I am not blinding other drivers.

Here they are on my truck:

Now if you are using them on a grill guard or something different, this may not be of any help to you. I like these though - Cheap and they fit - LOL

i have a set of hella 500s and hella 500FF's on my explorer, they are a good decently priced light. great output for what i use them for (high beams since i lost mine with my HIDs) with the 4 of them i can see for along ways down the road.

You should always turn them off when your behind someone our driving towards someone on any road. You have no clue how hard it is to drive when someone is blinding you.

+1000

The fact they are flashing you means they are way too bright. :annoyed:

Or aimed way too high. Probably a combination of both.

I have a set of Hella 500's on one truck, and a set of 500FF's on the other. I like them, I think the FF's are on my F-150 and they about double the range of the highbeams. Since people will flash me if I leave the highbeams on, I turn the Hella's off as soon as someone is in sight. Only difference between the two I can see are the lenses, the FF's have a clear lens and the straight 500's have a lens more like a normal headlight.

I grabbed them for $30 a set at Wal-Mart, I dunno why but one store seemed to be closing out of them, every other store still has them in stock for about $60 a pair with wiring.
