just wondering if i can run my truck in 5th gear towing my single place trailer with my 1990 seadoo. trailer and seadoo are under 1000lbs i think. my truck is a 05 4x4 4.0 5 speed with 4.10 gears. any input would be great.

thanks adam

Most will say don't do it but I can do it fine with an 07 3L, I get great mileage and don't require much throttle to do it. I have a 97 seadoo gs on a single trailer ~1000lbs full of gas.

I think you'll be fine with your 4.10 axle ratio (assuming you have the stock size tires on it, and your "5 speed" is the Mazda stickshift trans). Sounds like a light load without too much wind drag.

(RBVs of years ago with Mitsubishi transmissions sometimes disintegrated 5th gear if you put them under heavy load in OD for a prolonged period).

as long as you can maintain speed with the cruise control you should be o.k. my rig wont handle o/d while towing, but my trailer is 2 ft taller than the truck and i get very severe wind drag from it.

i would think you wouldnt even know it was back there...

a trailer of around 1000# loaded is no different from putting the same load
in the bed of the truck.

trivial.

unless of course you have a tall trailer, creating wind resistance from a large frontal area. but jet skis, not a problem. a 4.0 with 4.10's probly wouldnt notice its back there.

Not too long ago I towed a friend's 21foot Sailboat 110miles
and there were a couple of times I forgot that was back there....

Funny part was it was on the upgrades where I forgot it.

I noticed it on the downgrades and there was this big white
thing in my rearview mirrors when I turned, but otherwise...
