I just purchased a 1994 Mazda B3000 4x4 in amazing shape for $500, but the transmission is on its way out. I only bought this as a yard truck, but due to the condition it seems a shame not too replace/repair the transmission. Is it hopeless to repair if: 1) pops out of 1st until the clutch is fully released 2)grinds going into 3rd and 3) very noisy with the clutch out in neutral. The seller drove it the 30 miles to my house without blowing it up.

Sounds like the clutch has a problem more than the whole transmission needing rebuilt/replaced.

I agree it may be the clutch. I had to replace mine when I could'nt get it into second or third gear.

make sure to replace the slave if you do the clutch.

Sounds like a clutch issue to me as well.
PS Do I get in trouble if I recommend trading it for a firebird? :D Kidding mods.

clutch is an easy fix and $500 is a sweet price. even if it does need a trans, replacing the manual trans will still make it a good deal.

if its a hydraulic clutch make sure u bleed it before u do anything else because having air in the lines can cause the clutch to not fully disengage
