First off, its EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation).
Secondly, being as your in california, your vehicle is required to retain ALL emissions equipment that was installed on the vehicle from the factory, including the EGR system.
I'd keep EGR anyway, if it was originally equipped with it. As the computer would be looking for data from the EGR pressure sensor, etc, and without it the computer will gets all sorts of confused, trips codes, blah blah blah.
You could of course, find a Ranger that was not equipped with an EGR system, and use the computer from that. But as I understand california law, thats a no-no.
