M5od 2wd to 4wd?

Is it possible to convert the 2wd version of the m50d to 4x4. the only differnece i see is the tail housing that need to be swaped for a 4x4 version. Also the output shaft need to be changed?

Yes, the output shaft needs to be changed.

That requires compleat, in detail, disassembly of the transmission.

So how can one do it and can the tail shaft off a FM146 work for the conversion?

Take the transmission apart and move the guts to a 4x4 output shaft. Then put it back together.

Is an FM146 an M5OD? The answer to that question is also the answer to your question.

Okay thanks for your response. I figured being how the transfer case has to be interchange between an fm145 fm146 and m5od also the Tuyo version that maybe the tail shaft could be also. But thank you for straightening that out?.

No, I wish it was that easy.

In my younger days I had access to a few transmissions, including a Bordeaux automatic, that were all junk yard cores and nobody would miss parts from. I tried interchanging the extension housings, and while the rear flange for the t-case are all the same the forward flanges aren't even close.

IIRC the FM145 and 146 were kinda close, but still not right.
