I installed my new Pioneer radio and loved it except I have poor reception (particularly FM). I get some stations, but not as well as I should. What really seems odd is when I place my hand on my headunit, the reception becomes even worse. I tried replacing the antenna. Besides replacing the whole unit with the antenna wire, I don't know what else to try.

Any help is appreciated.

This indicates the radio chassis is not grounded properly.

You mention replacing the antenna. Did this include the coax going to the antenna? Possibly the coax or connector has an open circuit.

Ideally, the radio chassis should be grounded to the body, and the coax shield grounded to the body at the antenna and to the chassis (via the connector).
