aright... im looking into a 94 ranger extended cab to buy, only problem is that the tranny is shot. im looking for a ballpark figure on labor to get a new tranny swapped in. I can get the tranny from an autowrecker in town, but im just wondering if its worth buying. the truck is for sale for a 1000 since the guy doesnt have enough money to fix it/ thanks.

with busted tranny i think u can get it for less than $1000...

ok, take a look at the blue book value of the truck, then subrtact the cost of the transmission u will buy. Dont forgtet the value of the remedial parts... hoses, gaskets, seals and whatnot...

Now: which has more value, the bluebook or the cost of repair.

NOTE: it will cost at least 1000 to have the transmission replaced at a shop, if they will do it at all due to the used nature of the part. It will be exceedingly difficult for the shop to warranty the work.

Do some dealing and the tranny will be worth it if u do the work yourself...

before you buy, check out all your options to see if it is economical to buy it.

best bet is to get on the phone and call for quotes for a rebuilt tranny, and a used tranny. call a shop a see how much it would be for them to install it (if you can't do it yourself)
add a bit extra as evanesce69 says for hoses, gaskets, seals, fluid.

check out the shape of the rest of the truck too, is it worth putting a bunch of money into it?

didn't answer you question directly, but hope this helps you out.
