Depends how you want to do it... One guy asked me the exact same question today, and I told him the best way is to find a similar vehicle in a junkyard, but that already has a manual trans. Then just steal all the components from it. you have to watch those junkyards, the ones around my area are run by a bunch of damn greedy mexicans who try and rip off all the "dumb" gringos. I hate them. Seriously, $500 for a f*cked up 1354...

Maurice did his swap on his '97 Ranger 4.0 for about $600. That was mainly the new parts he bought (clutch, etc.). The rest of the stuff he either got off eBay or from a wrecked truck at the junk yard.
Doing an auto to manual swap is MUCH cheaper than having an auto transmission rebuilt.
