Mods move ths thread if you have to cause I'm unsure where it belongs...

I have had to fix 2 doors in the past for customers where the tire carrier tries to rip them in half...Before it happens to my truck, What kinda solutions have any of you folks fabbed up?...Any thoughts appreciated....like to see pics..

There is a bumper thread with pics of various members bumpers and some have made tire carriers on their bumpers.

I reinforced the rear hatch with a 6" strip of 3/16" steel all the way across the door with a 1/4" carrige bolt every 6" or so. It worked great for 31's but if you are talking bigger than 31's, you are probably going to want a carrier supported by the bumper only.

Hinge pic:

I used what are basically wheelbarrow wheel bearings inside of a piece of 1¼" pipe (or was it 1½" pipe? I forget), they fit almost perfectly in the ends of the pipe. Bolt is ¾", mounted double-shear, using a nut welded into the bumper underneath.

Not a good idea on a lifted vehicle. The center of gravity is already higher, why add anothe 95lbs on the roof?
