Hey everyone. Thanks for all the good reading around here. I have a question that I couldn't find any results on through searching.
I have an 02 Edge 4x4 that has the t-bars torqued either 1.5 or 1.75 (I'll have to go look). I picked up a set of Cragar soft 8s 16x8 4" BS and am looking for a "definitive" answer if there is one to whether I can run 285/75/16s without a lift, rubbing or regearing. I have the 4.10 gearing.
Does anyone here have this setup? I have read about guys running the 285s on stock 16" rims and rubbing however I think the stock backspacing is 4.5, correct?
Do you guys think I'd have issues with this set up? I am trying to avoid a lift if possible right now because I'd like to spend that money on an Elocker or ARB in future.
Thanks for any help.

I think for 33's the best backspacing is 3.75. Any you will have rubbing issues. I'm pretty sure that this can be solved partly by trimming the flares. If you don't have 4.10's the it will suck. I didn't check what engine you have but if it's the 3.0 don't do it unless you have 4.10's. I would do the locker, then a lift, then gears and tires. Just my .02

Thanks. I have the 4.0 with 4.10s and limited slip on it. I need new tires and rims first since I have limited slip. I'll add a locker in the future. Trying to avoid BL if I can. I can get away with the 265s since they are close to a 32" tire but just wondering about 285s. Don't want to fender trim just yet either.
Thanks again.

There are some guys around who have 285's with no lift I think?? If you don't go offroad you'll probably be fine. 265's should fit no prob

If you just drive on the street you can get away with it. May still have some minor rubbing on the sway bar. If you go offroading then you will have problems. I could rub my old 265's with a body lift off road.

Just an update with pics to come, I had Dakota MTs put on the rims. They are 265/75/16. They look great and the fit is perfect. I do think that if I put these tires on the stock rims they would have rubbed and full lock or before it. Height wise I could have gotten the 285s but without a BL they would have rubbed at full lock especially offroad.
So far I am impressed with the tires. They are definitely louder than ATs but it's not too bad especially at 55mph or so. I tried them out in the mud and they clean themselves very well and have great traction.
I think I am going to like these tires for what they are especially since I will change them out during the week with the stock rims and street tires.
They cost $141.99 each.
