Is proportioning valve the same as ABS hyrdro valve

Both my parking brake light and my ABS light are on. So l took it to the shop that serviced my brakes last and they got a readout for the proportioning valveis bad and that it is not sending fluid to the RABS

After looking in my manual, the Ranger doesnt have a proportioning valve for the RABS, just the ABS Hydraulic Unit. l just wanted to make sure they are one in the same. (The truck is a 94 4WD, 4.0)

One last thing, this unit is located on the drivers side frame rail near the engine, right? Is there any tricks to replacing it, does removing the rfont driveshaft help at all?

"Proportioning valves" are a unicorn.

Rangers don't use them.

The "thing" often pointed to as a "proportioning valve" is nothing of the kind.

Some vehicles have a block that STUPID mechanics will point to
and say "that the proportioning valve", when in fact on an EARLY ('83-85) Ranger that "thing" is actually a pressure differential switch that is only there to detect a catastrophic leak in one "circuit" (front or rear) or the other

MY '87 ranger came from the factory with an absolutely unbroken piece of line that ran DIRECTLY from the master cylinder to the rear brake hose, not even a nuion to join two pieces of line.

The front line ran to a simple "T" block on the frame to
split the feed to the two front brakes.

when I was having a problem with one rear brake locking up a friend of my brother's said "your proportion valve is stuck" I suggested that I'd perform a lobotomy on him wiht a rusty shovel but removing dead brain cells wouldn't do more than get blood on my shovel and ruin the patina of rust.

There is only the RABS hydraulic unit.

Someone was trying to feed you a bunch of crap.

That is what l figured...

the disgusting part is they wanted almost $800 to fix it:icon_rofl:

That included replacing the part, flushing and bleeding the brakes and that was it...

The part is $160 w/o a core, or $105 w/ core and maybe 2 hours of work to install, flush the system and bleed the brakes.
