Is the box the right size for the sub?

yeah, its just that the box is made for going behind a seat and its preety small. i was thinking a bigger box would let the sub perform better

What size box does the manufacturer of the sub say to use for that particular sub?
If you don't know, I could find out for you quite easy. Just tell me the size of the sub.

hmm.. I'm pretty sure your supposed to run those with a sealed enclosure of .75 cubic feet, or ported at 1.5 cubic feet.
Whats your current setups size?

nope, according to jl's site, they specify .625 cubic feet sealed. 1 cubic foot ported. if its sounding distorted, you may be pushing it too hard. it should be fed 300 watts max.

Actually, I checked using their site as well. Double checking right now.. will edit in the results.

I'm right.. your not.
What site did you use? My guess is you looked up a random 10inch subwoofer, because the W1 is actually discontinued. Although if you know what your looking for, you can find it.

The box is likely too small. Try turning the amps gain down for the time-being. It will help it sound better.
