exhaust tips

hey yall i just got some weld on exhaust tips and i was wondering when you get the tips put on do they slip just a lil exhaust piping into the tip then weld it? OR slip a whole bunch of piping in? my dad seems the think the later and says that my tips will look dumb as hell that way but i think its the first way. anybody got any input?

Ive seen people do it ether way It will look best if you weld the tis to the end of the pipes after trimming it to the right length but it reall depends on how good you are at making things because it is harder to do it like that and keep them strait.

yea im gettin a shop to do it for me so its professional work and all but i was just seein cuz id seen him doin it on the end but dad was sayin sum other way and i was like all confused

it also has to do with sound. it only maks a lil differance but it still makes one. if u cut the pipe, and weld the tip to the end of it, then u will have a lil bit deeper tone, and if u just stick the tips on over ur pipe then its gonna sound a lil diff. my advice is to, put the tip by the pipe were u want the tip commin out. distance that sort of thing. roughly about half way down the tip make a mark on the pipe and cut there. that way u get the best of both worlds so to speak. people wont notice ur pipe inside ur tip, and its easyer to weld the tips on that way.
