Newby- 2001 Ranger no 4X4

Aloha, new to the forum. Have a 2001 4.0 auto, 84k. The dial for the activation worked until someone put in in 4-lo while on the fly. No obvios noises or such. No light comes on and no engagement. Hadn't used the 4X in a while prior to this. Any thoughts? TIA. ;brownbag;

Not exactly sure, all i know is to go into 4-lo you have to be stopped and possibly in neutral? Hopefully nothing major broke.

The truck's computer would not let the range shift happen while moving. Nothing would have happened, it must be something else that went bad around the same time.

Check the electric motor on the T-case. You can put it into 4X4 with a screwdriver once the motor is removed. If the motor is dead try the relay/fuse. I'd hotwire the motor on the bench and see if I could get it to work. Process of elimination...
