View Full Version : AC Suckin Powa!
I hang out at clubrsx.com and one of the guys got his car dyno'd and had a run at it with the A/C on.

I was pretty surprised at the results ... didn't think it would be that bad!:cool:

interesting that honda doesnt have a WOT cut-out on the a/c like fords do....

If you read through the thread they mention it cutting out at about 7500 RPM and that it can be tweaked with KPRO (after market tuning setup). Dunno about direct from factory. So not really sure!

dyno runs are done at WOT, so if there was a cutout, there should have been no change between a/c on and a/c off...not just a difference at a certain RPM.
im betting that the a/c was cycling as normal and it just happen to click off when he hit 7500rpm.

Oh duh, I'm such an idiot at times I didn't really even think about what I was saying for some reason. It would definitely be nice to have it turn off though.

I know my fiancee's ranger definatly knows when the air is running. As a matter of fact the B2 does too, the only thing I have that doesn't is the F-250. It sorta yawns and keeps on truckin.. lol
even my minivan has a wot cut off on the A/C and even turns down the stereo at wot

even turns down the stereo at wot
ok now THAT is cool!

Turns it down? thats interesting. I wonder how little it actually saves in electrical draw by lowering the volume
I know some of the fords will increase the volume with the speed. Its a nice little function that completely screws up little old men and women
it only cuts the volume @ WOT .... the theory is you don't need the stereo in a Chrysler Town & Country at wot at 99 mph (had it to 104 but i ran out of room and had to start backing it down) but Subaru used to have a model that @ WOT shut the alternator off.

it probably has more to do with driver concentration then power draw. thats why i turn mine down while im romping on it (that and to hear what the motor is doing).

true.
I guess I am still not used to having a vehicle where the engine wasnt louder than the stereo could go

lol, I just went from a crown vic with a stock radio and a bad knock to a cherokee that runs great with a system, so like I said, its new to me:D
I have the stock 8 speaker infinity CD/cass in Teffie's minivan. Chrystal clear from low volume to maxed out volume.
As much as I hate minivans I have to admit ........ after 14 straight hours at work our Chrysler makes the ride home nice.
Yeah, I really doubt the stereo volume is cut down to save power. Remember 1 HP is 750 Watts. Stock stereos tend to have only a little over 100 Watts amplification. We're not talking about measurable power, even for an extremely powerful stereo.
Now, I certainly could see a late model vehicle trying to manage the stereo for driver concentration. There is a lot of that kind of stuff.
The A/C should cut out at WOT on any vehicle. It sounds like the WOT relay is grounded or bypassed. This isn't just for the power, but to save a bit of heat on the cooling system.
