am considering buying a 1994 mazda b4000 with the manual Mazda M5OD-R1 transmission in it.
The same person has a wrecked ranger with a 3.0 vulcan V6 in it.

What will be involved in putting the 3.0 into the b4000? (I plan on probably running the 4.0 into the ground first or using it as a guinea pig for something I am working on)

any info on this would be vastly appreciated.

If it can't be done, are there any other engines with excellent reputations that get similar or better fuel economy I can fit into this mazda?

thanks in advance

well, the 4.0 has 187k on it, while the 3.0 has under 100k. I am asking basically to find out if its worth buying the 3.0 for a later swap (when the 4.0 goes)

sounds like a lot more project than its worth. I'll just look for another 4.0 at that point, explorers are everywhere around here

it's probably not worth getting the 3.0

The 4.0 has a different bellhousing pattern (different trans) Different motor mount brackets, throttle cable, Y-pipe...

It's ugly switching one engine for another.

Yeah gas is a concern, but a 4.0 if driven carefully can get within 2mpg of what a 3.0 is capable of.... infact I've seen quite a few 3.0 owners reporting worse mileage than I routinely get with my 4.0.
