Of course... we don't yet have a Photoshop topic board for that site.

Starting it. Anyone who has photoshop and the skills to shop pictures is welcome and highly needed to join in. Since I'm starting this thread I will try my best to meet the needs of the members on TRS. Please provide an appropriately sized picture with a description of what you want. I would rather have a thumbnail or a link to the picture posted than the full sized picture because it would keep size down that way. Please be patient, it may take a while. I reserve the right to refuse requests, as do any other members willing to chop. Please do not spam this forum or flame it if we do. Some pictures were just not meant to be chopped. This includes outrageous requests including a lot of work. As I have said many other times, my skills with photoshop are limited. If you ask for a lift, the size may not be accurate. I will estimate using an item on the foreground or your truck.

Note: If requesting a special item photoshop please include a picture of that item with angles matching a provided picture of your truck. (ex: Grill, bumper, etc)

I have decided that the Photo and Video forum would be an appropriate place for this thread. If a moderator decides otherwise.. its up to you to move it, since I can't.

If anyone feels a need to include something into this introduction of the thread, please PM me and I will edit to include it. Thank you.

I have decided that the Photo and Video forum would be an appropriate place for this thread. If a moderator decides otherwise.. its up to you to move it, since I can't.

I also have PS and would be glad to help out with any requests. The better the pics the better the results. If the pics are large a request with links to the pics or e-mailing the pics to someone who would do the chop. I am not "perfect" but have been using PS for over 10 years and love a challenge from time to time :icon_thumby:.

If a moderator can, a separate thread would be better - so everyone would know where to make a request and where to look for the results.

Hope to be here more often . . . :bye:

This may be my first post with this screen name, I had another but forgot what is was - so I am not a noob who is lost - lol

No problem - glad you like it - I had to look at it again once I woke up to see how well I did at 3 AM - LOL.
I used to have a pirate version of PS (Version 7) :stop: and finally the funds presented themselves and I bought it outright. The main problems you face with an illegal copy are "getting caught with it" and not being able to upgrade unless you upgrade to another illegal copy.
I do graphics work for work (Hazmat training presentations) and I have CS3 on my work laptop, CS at home - both legal and supported.
Best way to learn PS - use it. It took me a while and then I bought a training DVD pack for like $300 (8 DVDs) and that took my skills beyond the next level. Also try getting on PS forums and ask for advice. A VERY GOOD resource is GoodTutorials.com, check them out - some awesome tutorials that have helped me from time to time. Not many for cars but I think they have well over 60,000 tutorials for PS and other graphics programs.
Good luck man and show us you skills some time - would be glad to offer some advice and constructive criticism (you know the good kind - LOL).

p.s. Boggin you might not want to say that on here...

koda - I would be careful with that as well. It is legal for the original owner and purchaser. If you were to upgrade your version, Adobe would not allow it as you are not the original owner :bawling: - I have had this happen before. The version is legal, just not to you. Now if you can prove it was a gift or purchased from the original owner then they will work with you to make that copy licensed to you with no additional fees. That is what I had to do.
In the big corporate world, especially Adobe - they protect their software vigilantly.

And Boggin - I did forget to mention - keep it on the down-low my brotha - LOL. Advertising is good for some things - bad for others, be careful.

Wow, didn't know we had this, thanks for pointing it out koda. Hear it goes:
Ive been wanting to repaint my truck since I bought it, but I don't know what color combo to go with. I was thinking either Sonic Blue with the lower tutone area and the center of the hood/grille black. or the inverse of that with red instead of blue. And if someone could Photoshop it for me that would be great. And if you do Photoshop it, think you can remove my steps as well?
Heres some pics to work with if you want:

How much of a stripe on the hood do you want? Like a foot wide or the whole raised portion? And do you want it to continue over the cab?

Did a quick one up with about a 12inchish to 18inchish stripe. Red & black two tone.
I bet that doing the fender flares the same color would look nice, but I didn't do one up of that. Just use your imagination. :icon_thumby:
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r115/rdnx4life/Ranger%20Station/tn_full_S5031211JPG_Thumbnail1copy.jpg
Someone else could probably have done a better job since I'm new to photoshop, but I felt like giving it a try. The red and black sounded easy.
Not sure how I would do with the sonic blue. I would probably make it look like crap, worse than I did this.
That's how I want to do my truck btw.. Haha

That looks great, Sonic Blue is a bit darker than that, but its a good representation, the red looks good too. Thats funny about the gaurd, but it'll be gone by then. How you get the black... black? Cause when I did it came out grey. And Boggin, I aint to far ahead of you on that one, lol. I might go SB when I repaint.

Well, some people click "multiply" To get it black.. I hate doing that because when I do it it either looks to fake or it comes out some weird dark color of the origional. I just adjust the brightness to make the greyscale.. blackish.

Hazmat Ranger

Those steps are ok for minor things, but for an entire body I always use an Adjustment Layer for Hue/Saturation and select colorize. I am not sure when Adobe started the ALs but another way is to make a copy of the body (colored sections only) and then adjust the color of it with Hue/Saturation and then play with the layer blend modes such as darken, multiply etc. This gives you flexibility with the colors and your base image is never changed - Use Layers, Love Layers - Layers are you best friend - LOL - seriously.
There are many ways to change colors and maintain flex - keep working with it guys and if you have any other questions - ask I will be glad to try and answer them.

Hazmat Ranger

Danger06Ranger - I can change the color if you want - sorry I should have googled it. The hardest color to do is white - I still have yet to find a way to do it without the body washing out completely. I love Photoshop - PS rules . . . . LOL

Hey Hazmat, can you do lifts?

Hazmat Ranger
07-08-2008, 01:39 AM
if you like it so much, care to tell me how to paint? :D
thanks alot

Not a problem

Painting can be done in MANY ways. The simplest is to create a new layer above the image layer and using a medium sized brush paint with the desired color on the new layer. Do not worry about getting things perfect just yet, just color the whole truck pink (or you color of choice - LOL). Now lower the opacity (the % box at the top of the layer dialog box) so you can see through the paint you just laid down. This allows you to use the eraser to fine tune the edges, remove paint from lights and windows and such. I know this sounds like a lot of steps, but remember - in the beginning you must learn to crawl before you can walk says the wise man (not me just a bad interpretation). After doing the fine tuning with the good ole eraser, then raise the opacity back up to 100%. This will give you a solid color over the areas to be changed. The layer blend modes (at the top of the layer dialog box) are set to normal as a default, click the drop box and play with them til you get something you like - don't like it undo or change back to normal. Remember - all this time we are working on a separate layer not the base image. Also it is good practice to work on a copy of the original to prevent damaging the original - to do that when you open it go File, Save As and give it a new name like New Paint 1 or something.
For more realistic paint changes, there are many more steps involved and more tools such as the lasso tool, pen tool, adjustment layers and more. I am not that skilled at writing step by step tutorials, but I can lead you to a site or two that have car chop tutorials. Hope this helps - sorry so long.:bye:

Photoshop tutorials and automotive chop sites - I don't know if this is permitted so please forgive if not. Just a few places where you can find PS tutorials for working on cars.

Photochopshop - these guys are good here - tutorials are excellent also.

Worth1000 - a fun PS contest site that has tutorials also

so how exactly do i do a new layer?

 LOL

In the Layers Dialog Box - the box with you original image layer - look a the bottom and you will see a small icon that looks like a square with a smaller square in the corner (that is what mine looks like) - click on that for a new layer OR
Click on Layer at the top of the screen, then click New and Layer - the long way home . . . but that will work also.

Will work on the lift . . .

Oh yeah - that is so you can name your layers - like body blue, or body red or Swampers or whatever - so you can just look at the names and find the layer you want to make active. Active layer??? Yeah - when you click on a layer in the Layer dialog box, you make it the active layer - this is the layer all of your work will take place on. If you want to paint - do it on the active layer not the background layer. Ok?

I've always wanted one of those.. Haha.
Normally I complain about people randomly posting their PS works in here, but I think I'll just ignore that one because it will give people ideas.

For future reference please place posts like Phil's Cars picture in the other photoshop thread located here. (http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21518) If I was a moderator I would have the power to move these, but I don't.. so I can only ask that you post in the appropriate place.

OOO BURN!

Actually, this isn't an argument, it's me being confused.

But oh well.

Here's a chop for you guys, I've been thinking about getting a cab fairing because there's one in a yard in my color, I know they look decent on regular cab trucks but I've never seen one on a super. I'd chop it myself, but I haven't got the time.

I'm not confused as to the post about pictures, I'm confused as to the "Wrong thread, oops." My guess would have to be that he posted in the wrong thread, and instead of deleting the post, edited it to say that. I don't know why we have to keep talking about this. But okay.

Thanks Hazmat, I couldn't get it anywhere's near the right size without distorting it beyond recognition. Still need some more practice.

Your welcome. I had to cut it into two pieces at the point where the side fairing met the top bar. I positioned both parts the used the Clone tool and lined up the edges. Also a good way to do reflections when doing a render such as this Toyota . . .

I made this for a contest on another site . . . I should have did a bit more work on the edges of the reflection to remove the dark edge . . .

Hey guys, I have one for whoever wants it. Could somebody make my truck that Cobra Grey (below) with an offset black racing stripe, down passenger side (about 5-7inches thick) and make that pinstripe along side a solid black one (equal to the width of the 2 combined)? I have 2 pictures of my Truck. I haven't gotten a chance to take a good picture with the billet grill, I took that one with my phone. I'd appreciate it very much, I can't decide on a color, but this is the one that is stuck in my head. Thank you!!! I'm sorry i asked for so much.

ok you are going to think I'm crazy but here goes. I am building a truck right now but I don't want it to be plain red when done. I have an idea in my head for some stripes. The first pic is a pic of a truck its going to look similar to and then one where I plan on striping it and then the patern I'm going to use for stripes. If you can't do it its ok. if you have a design you would like to see thats ok too, I'm pretty open to suggestions.

Could someone give my ranger a 3" body lift and 33x10.5 tires? Any kind of tire that size would work but preferably a tire that can be used for off road and regular everyday driving use. (sorry i couldnt find a picture.)

also could someone put in a truck bed tool box? either color is fine. Stainless steel or black. And a supervisor would be sweet. Same color as truck right now.

anyways, that should give me a basic idea of what i want to start out with. thanks! i know its a lot of work!

oh and whoever photochops this, you can use either picture, but the first one might be better/easier to use.

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn23/Boggin-B-Series/broncoo.jpg
so there she is,
I want it all red, except for the rear of it grey like pictured, I want the gray to be a few inches above the top body line like where the door handle is, and from the back up to the crease of the door (i put a black mark there) and 2 white stripes as pictured, I want it to start at the top body line (where the door handle is, and I marked it for you) and the grey should be up enough so there is about an inch or two of the red seperating the stripe and grey
and thats about it, oh yea and I would like the stripes to be as close thickness to what is pictured as possible, and if its not to hard, maybe do the grill and rims white? thanks, looking forward to it

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn23/Boggin-B-Series/bronco.jpg

That should not be a problem, but without the right tires the rims will cover the lettering and will not look right - I will give it a shot and see if I can make it work.

I like the look of it though . . .
