i have a 91 ranger with the typical speaker whine. i have read that it is due to interference from the in tank fuel pump. the whinning happens even when the key is in accessory mode and only while playing tapes (oldschool haha). it says on the 'Known Problem Areas' page that an electronic noise filter for the fuel pump will fix it. what i want to know is how would you go about installing that or where would you buy it. second is if i installed an aftermarket stereo, which i do have, would it stop the buzzing, it seems like its only interfereing with the tape deck so i dunno.:dntknw: any helpful ideas would be appreciated

The fuel pump does not run in accessory position. Also, if the pump was causing the noise (its not) it would be noticable with the radio too. So we can rule out everthing except the radio.

Noise filters (cap or cap/coil type) are mostly ineffective for fixing noise problems. If the noise is ouside the range of the filter it will be completely useless. In other word, noise is typically at a specific frequency range, the filter will need to work at that frequency range.

So lets try a new radio and see what happens
