why so loud???

my power steering pump is really loud, (as im told all Ford pumps are usually loud) nothing is wrong with it i dont think, anyways, is'nt there a "aftermarket" pump thats quiter and stronger??
 
Have you checked your fluid level lately? What fluid are you running? How old and what color is it?
 
Yeah.

They whine.

Mine has been doing this for 4.5 years and 60K miles. I might get around to doing somethng about it soon....or I might not.

They will whine if they get air in them....ever.

If it is working ok, and the fluid looks/smells good, I'd say keep running it.
 
Most people/shops fill them with regular power steering fluid. Mine used to whine like a bitch till I emptied it and put the specified fluid, ATF Type F. You'd be amazed how good things work when you follow the manufacturers specs...
 
Older pumps use Type F, newer ones use Mercon. Check your owner's manual for correct fluid.
