In my '93 F150 the 4wd doesn't seem to engage. It's a 5.0 auto with and E-shift transfer case and auto lock hubs. The transfer case is shifting into 4wd and also into low range I can watch the front driveshaft turn to verify.

When turning the front shaft by hand, the driver's hub would catch and the passenger side would not, I swapped the pass. side hub with a spare and now it will catch and the driver side will not. I crawled under my dad's F250 with the D50 and both hubs lock in when turning the front shaft by hand.

It seems like I'm chasing something odd here. The F150 is only going to be a wood hauler so I'd like to fix this on the super cheap. If it's not something very simple I'm just going to find some manual lockers in the junk yard.

Does the front axle engage electrically? Not sure how your model works. If the axle engages electrically after engaging the t-case, then it is most likely the vacuum canister for the front axle. Search for that and see if anything got unplugged.

I turned the front shaft by hand again and both hubs locked in. This seems really odd.

Automatic hubs leave alot to be desired as far as durability is concerned. Swap to manual hubs and be done with it.

+1

D44 manual hubs are quite easy to find in a junkyard (they are not all that expensive to buy new either, less than ones for the D35)
