Hey,
I have a 1993 Ford Ranger Splash and i bought some led's for my gauge cluster off of ebay for a good price and i was wondering how you take out the gauge cluster to replace the bulbs. I have the cluster unbolted and tried to pull strait out on it but it feels like i am pulling on a lot of wires so i stopped.

thanks rusty.

On a '93 you've got to reach behind the cluster and disconnect the speedometer cable, then the two wiring harness connectors.

First thing, go the base of the firewall where the speedo cable comes through, and see if you can pull an inch or two more slack. This will get you more room to get your hand behind the cluster (I think from the top works best, IIR). Feel for a small square part on the cable end and push in; when it disconnects, the cable will pull away from the cluster (the cluster will now likely pull out a little farther, too). The rectangular harness plugs have lock tabs on the small ends; push in on these tabs to unlock each connector.

For reinstallation, all three of these items snap back into place, and push the cable slack back through the firewall grommet if you have trouble seating the cluster. BTW, if it's needed, while the cluster is out, it's a great time to remove the lens and CAREFULLY dust the guage faces and clean the back of the lens.

I hope the R&R memory is good here, and good luck.

thanks so much i will try that tomorrow and get back to you. thanks rusty
