I've made some more progress on the beast. I put a TK4 in for a tranny. The C5 would have been a better tranny but I really dont like auto's so I put the TK in. If I break it I have a FM145 as a spare. Now I need to build the doubler so I'll be starting on that next. Here are some pic's.

Cool! progress is good. I was thinking about p.m.ing you and asking how it was coming. So you did go with the TK, cool! If you break the TK just get a hold of me, I'll see what I can do.

I have learned in life that anything labeled" good " is overpriced and hard to find, and anything labeled "junk" is a dime a dozen and if labor is not an issue you can buy 10 junk ones for the cost of one good one. RB

The plastic line that runs from the clutch master to slave is too short. I'm using the one from the Ranger pickup. Can it be lengthened? I highly doubt i can find one from a Aerostar van in the junk yard. I'm open for suggestions. RB

I've tried unsuccessfully to patch the lines together many times. It sure would be nice if someone would come up with a fitting that would work.
I never saved any of the lines from the Aerostars I parted. I should have.
I wonder if you can buy that line from Ford.

I had a plastic line from an '87 F150 that was long as hell, I had to cut off 2/3 of it to use it for my Ranger. Got it from a junkyard. I was actually able to rebend it too, just put a little bit of heat along the bends and not kink it while pulling it straight.
I'm running a stock Ranger master and the F150's slave, no leaks yet. a little heat and push it over the little zerk-like fittings. leave yourself some good extra line though, mine took a couple tries before it slid on right (cut the buggerd up end off and try again).
Heating that line as stated above will allow you to push it over a small fitting. I had to do this when taking my tranny out, couldnt get that damn quick fitting on the tranny to come out.
So I would guess you could get some more of the line and some double male barbed ends and splice to make a longer line. Use heat to get it over the fitting and use a hose clamp.
Also, RB, where you the one that was talking about those doubler shafts awhile back? Something about you had a buddy that could cut internal splines in the sector shaft? Anything ever come of that? I would still like to get one of those made. Still running the jankly welded one I busted a few months ago and would like to upgrade and not risk being stuck in da bush again with no wheel drive.

hey is that the same transmission that came in the early couriers? if so id be very very easy on it,the mitsubishi trans is stronger (fm-145,146) but i think only a 4.0l ranger or explorer trans will hold up in that boat.im pretty hard on my rigs so i guess if you never did any peel outs with it that it might last a while.by the way the 4.0l trans is a direct swap, same dimensions. i was also wondering if an sas would be going with the doubler?

The 4.0L 5-speed will NEVER bolt up to a 3.0L no matter how hard you hit it with a hammer though...

far as i know the aerostar only came with a 4.0l and the bellhousing pattern is the same as fords other 60 degree v6s. like the 2.8 and 2.9l. i dont know if the 3.slow is a 60 degree v6. maybe the early aerostars came with 3.0ls but ive only seen 4.0 versions.

The tranny is nothing to brag about but they are cheap to buy so when I break it (And I will) I'll throw the FM145 I have on the floor in, or buy another TK4. The good trannys are too long to fit the doubler in with the stock gas tank. I also have a C5 I can put in it if I want. It's getting a HP44 out of a 79 Bronco. However the first one got stolen so I'm waiting for my second one to arrive. RB

Aerostars have the same V6 engines as Rangers except the 2.9L was never an option. Mine has the 4.oL but the 3.0 are more common. RB

years ago, when I had a BII witha 5.0/R2 in it, I laid a drop light on the clutch line, and melted though it.. I repaired it with a splice of copper tube, and compression fittings, worked fine till I sold it..

you could bring the master cyl fitting and the slave fitting to a hydraulic shop and tell them the length and they can most likely make you up a line for cheap. If you wanted they could even make one out of steel braided line.
