Why does Mazda list a lower towing capacity than Rangers?

In the manual of my Mazda it says maximum towing is like 3500, and in a Ranger of the same style, year and engine, it's listed at 5600. I've towed 5400 lbs. just fine with my Mazda, so why is it listed so low?

Automatics are rated higher than manuals although they are weaker. Axle gearing is another biggie there are a bunch of different variables.

x2, axles and gears make a very big difference, whereas my Dana 35 could tow a good bit more than my brothers (mine in a few days :yahoo::clapping::headbang::stirthepot:) ranger

Drivetrain-wise with both trucks having a 4.0 they should have the same axles... The only difference is what transmission and axle ratios they have.

If your 2600 has a Dana 35 rear I would not compare it to a 7.5", they are not all that strong in the back of a truck.

the ratings for the mazda and ranger are the same. Now I don't know why your manual says that but are you sure you are not looking under the 3.0 V6 category which would be around 3500-4000 pounds. The manual for my truck is for all B-series trucks and has the ratings listed from the four cylinder to the 4.0 V6.

It says under the B4000, it's listed at about 3500 all over the internet too.

I have a manual, but I've towed 5400 lbs. with no problems what-so-ever.

thats why your truck is rated so low. The rangers are the same. cuz ford doesn't want to be replacing clutches....
