Anyone know where I can get these? So far I've only found one at Walmart, and its prettymuch an eighty dollar POS. I would really like to have one, because it would allow me to have an insane amount of music with me everywhere I go. I might end up quitting the search and going with the one at Walmart. I could prolly order it off the internet for half the price if I search a little with google..

It's a Virtual Reality Sound VR3.

I might go for it if I can find it for $60.. then I can always drop it on craigslist for around the same price if i need to upgrade to better sound.

do you have an ipod or an mp3 player? if so, you can get a double ended cord and plug it in the aux port if the deck has one and have EVEN MORE music haha. i have an 8g and its hella sweet. 1800 songs or so. some decks you can buy( pricer though ) you can get an adapter that plugs into the back of the deck then to your ipod n BOOM, controls the pod from the deck....i have yet to get one.

Yea.. but I have a couple spare SD cards lying around that are 2g and up, so I was trying to find one I can use em with. That 2 gigs will hold around 500 songs. It takes me a couple days to flip through the ones on my MP3 with an Autoreverse hooked into the tape deck of my truck. And that ones only a gigabyte, so two would be more than enough.

Only thing is that head unit seems kind of... questionable about quality.

I have a SD card reader for my diginal camera that plugs into a USB port, and I have a USB cable coming out of my Pioneer CD player, would one of those work? That would open up a great many CD players if it did.

Mine is the Pioneer something4000something from Wal-Mart, I love it.

Yeah, I suspect that would work just fine.

ya be careful on how big of sd card you place in the deck. The last time I looked at one it would only take like 256 at best. I would be afraid that a you might freeze up the deck or some crazy thing like that. also I would be worried about the ones that have usb in front of them for things like thumb drive. I can just see you reaching for somthing and hitting a bump causing you to bend or break off the usb slot in the deck. Just my .02 what i did was get a cheap Ipod interface for the the in dash 6disk changer out of a mustang. Works great I get to listen to what ever cd my nephews bring when we go out trap shooting, keep the other five cds from getting scratched while I get all 36000 song on my Ipod. Also looks stock so nobody messes with it.

Mine actually has like a 3' USB cord that comes out of the back of the deck.

I'm looking seriously at a Sony CDX-GT820IP CD player and an iPod cable out the back.

It doesn't take SD cards, but it'd work with other portable devices.

the real IMPORTANT feature of this Sony is that it has a multi line display so you not only see what playing NOW but you can see more detail (Title, artist AND album)
but you can see what's going to play NEXT.

I looked with interest at the Sony MEX-1HD which has a 10gig internal
memory, but it DOES NOT have a buss control port to run an external
device (like a changer or outboard sat radio) and the cards it takes in
the face plate are MG stick memory which are the Digital Rights
Management answer to flash memory AND the MEX-1HD only stores
ATRAC3 files.

An iPod will handle unprotected mp3 files which is how I prefer to handle
digital music, honestly I'd consider NO CD player to be a non player when
it comes to reaching for my wallet.

and even though I'm looking at an ipod I still don't want to give up my
changer, infact I still want to switch to an mp3 capable changer
(a Sony CDX-757MX)

Last week I made a trip to NJ and between two stores I bought nine "new"
(New to me as those stores sell a lot of used CDs) CD's and literally stuck
them in an empty magazine and listened to them on the way home and for
that matter all week....

It isn't only about storage, it's also about "user interface"
and most of "user interface" is about information.
information is all about what the display can tell you.

Bigger more detailed displays aren't cheap... well actually
they can be as you can get the sony I mention above for
~$160...

Memory cards? small compact and in my experience, unreliable.

I'd rather burn the mp3 files to a CD, 700mb at a clip, cost <$0.50
and are essentially disposable.

heres what i have in the escort:

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=300&i=133CQRX400&search=Panasonic+VENDORID133&searchdisplay=Panasonic&tp=5684

it was the cheapest USB deck i could get at the time (paid $90 "good guy" price). i originally got it for use with my 2 gig SD card with card reader...but now ive got a 40 gig laptop hard drive in THIS enclosure mounted in the glove box. the head unit wouldnt power the hard drive by itself, so i have a split USB cable, and a $5 "USB charger" from wal-mart for powering this contraption. it works well and i cant imagine what i'd ever need 40 gigs of music storage for (even after ripping all of my cd's, im only using 7 gigs).

i plan on setting up the same thing in the truck, only i'd like to find a deck with the USB in the rear for a cleaner install.

That looks like such a diabolically slick idea...

I've been looking at a Sony CDX-GT820IP deck that has
a rear cable for an iPod, that enclosure and an 80Gig-120Gig
Hard drive has gotta be cheaper than an iPod of similar size.

What do you do with that much storage?

Simply store your mp3's at a lower compression rate.

OR really splurge... get a 400Gig drive and store your
favorite 600 CDs with no compression at all... Full size cdda files :)

Technically it's 569 full length 702Mb CD's but how many CD's are actually full?

Even so, that's 31 days 15hours and 44min of
continuous music (Eeek!)

Now if you store mp3's compressed to 320kbit/sec
that number quadruples.
and as 160Kbit/sec mp3's doubles again...

Can you even wrap your mind around eight MONTHS of continuous music just playing it through from one end to the other.

Yeah, there is a practical limit to how much you would want to store....

I only have about 15Gigs of music myself but I'd hate to have to upgrade the storage device later because I've filled it.

Hence why I'm more than happy with a 2gig SD card.

I have a Jensen HD112 (I think that's the full name of it.) It has a slot for SD card behind the pull off facecover. I use the hell out of it!!! Lately I've been using the USB port on the front more.

This deck has lots of wires coming out the back. IPod included...

I have noticed a few things that I find irritating a bit.

-It will only show and play the first 255 songs in whatever storage device you use. So... It's pointless to store more than that on no matter what big of card/usb drive you have. I have a 1gb SD card and a 8gb USB drive in it right now. I have somewhere just over 200 songs on the card, and 4gb's of music on the drive. I think that comes out to 1800 songs in the compression ratio I use... I find it irritating to be able to only play the first 255 because I bought a 8gb drive so I would never have to worry about forgetting a cd or not having some certain song put on it.

-It starts at the first song when using a USB drive. Always. When you have the SD card in it... It will pick up where it left off. (I like the shuffle button alot, so I like it to pick up where it left off.)

I also just got new speakers for my doors. Now this deck has really seem to come alive!
