Traction lock?

Ok my wifes exploder, 93 2wd, has a 8.8 traction lock 3:73 rearend. Is this rare or something? It will go like my 4x4 ranger will.
 
No That's very common on both 2 and 4 wd explorers. It will only go in limited situations then you need 4wd preferably with traclok or better.
 
If it's a high mileage unit, it may not be functional anymore. The test is to raise the rear end with the transmission in gear or park and the parking brake off. If you can turn one wheel easily by hand, it's worn; if it takes effort (nominally 25 ft-lbs), it's fine.

These aren't all that hard to rebuild. You replace the clutch packs.
