Clunk on accel. and decel.

Hey guy's.

I'm trying to figure out this problem with my 1992 Ranger STX 2.9L 4x4.

When I take off from a dead stop I get this clunk. No sound, I can feel it though. It's VERY noticeable too.

When I come to a complete stop it does it again.

No sounds, just a feel....

It's like the rear suspension is loading and unloading torque.

U joints are good... Can't think of anything else but I want to fix it!

Are any of the leaf spring bushings rotted out?

Slip Yoke in the rear driveshaft. Take it apart, clean all the old sticky grease out of the male & female ends. Apply new grease to splines, reassemble & install it back in truck. If that's not it, the most you loose is 15-20 minutes out of your life in the troubleshooting process.

Any special grease?

Use a Moly CV joint grease on the slip-spline (and don't be stingy, fill all the spline grooves up as much as you can both inside the yoke & on the shaft). Then reseal the boot using black zip-ties (don't use hose clamps, they'll throw off the shaft's balance).

Thumper 113 is right, it's the slip yolk. I had the same thing with my 92 4.0L 4x4. I tried to CSI the problem for so long that was destroyed by the time I figured it out, so hopefully your's isn't as bad.

I havn't gotten to it yet....

But today it's hot out and it's not doing it as bad?

Could this dried up slip yoke cause hard shifting once in a while?
