My power steering pump is making a very loud squeal noise when I start up my 2001 ranger. It just started this all of a sudden and the noise has seemed to have gotten worse. I sprayed it with some penetrating spray while it was running and it goes away for about five seconds. Should I just replace the pump or could this issue be caused by something else? Thanks for any response.

If you're sure it's the PS pump that's making the noise, yes, you need to replace it.

Unless your serpentine belt or tensioner is badly worn. Then replace one or both of those.

exactly like mine

I had exactly same problem, My tensioner was seized and I didn't even realize it was supposed to have spring tension, I thought it just locked in place. I haven't heard a screach at start-up since. hope its fixed
