I just put red threadlocker on my starter bolts, I thought it was the blue type.

Starter has been installed for several days, was cleaning up and found this out.

:temper:

If you are careful, use a little heat on the bolts and you can get them out.

Will a propane tourch work? Of course the starter is not coming out until it goes bad.... The bell housing is aluminum, will the threads strip?

Propane should work just fine. I use a welding tip on an oxy acetylene torch with a small flame at work when I run into stuff like that. Also, when you do this, work the bolt slowly first tighten it slightly and then loosen it. Work slowly and the bolt will come out. Don't worry about stripping the bolt holes - that's what Helicoils are for! Usually a hole will only strip if you try to overtighten a bolt or try putting something with the wrong thread pitch (ie metric into SAE) into it.

Yeah, I never could figure out why they do that. I almost found out the hard way myself, luckily I caught myself.

man, sounds like god just cursed you :haha: (forgive me allah)

I thought it went red, blue, then green? Any way i think red is supposed to be like permenant.

I dont really know why everyones getting so serious about it, i only ever use red lock tight and never really have a problem breaking them loose with a 3/8 ratchet......heat to remove a lil lock-tite? idk guys.

The bolts should come out without any trouble. Why would you use threadlocker on starter bolts?? I have never had any problems in this area. In fact, they always set very tight after a few engine cycles. As an aside, I puchased a bottle of red the other day and that damn stuff has skyrocketed inprice. Small bottle, 8 bucks. shady
