What do you tow, truck spec, what kind of roads, at what speed, and what was your mileage?

Eg.

Seadoo (950lbs on trailer)
'07 B3000 4:10 rear 235/75/15 tires mtx
mainly country roads, ~105kph
13.8L/100km or 17.2mpg
(9.5L/100km or 25mpg when not towing)

My credo
the grey-t escape
6x9 haulmark box trailer, 1,000 pounds empty. (loaded weight varies, never more than 3,000 total. doesnt matter anyways, the tall trailer has wind resistance that acts like a drag parachute. above 45 mph vaccum guage is in the red, below 10", 40-45 mph will run around 10"-12" on vac guage) '93 ranger 4x4 4.0 5 speed with 3.73's on 235/75-15 tires. state routes mostly. truck gets 17-19 not towing and 12-14 when towing this:

Update!

I towed the same load on the same trip today with a reduced speed of 90kph ans much slower starts and managed 10L/100km or 24mpg. Thats close to the best I've gotten from this truck when unloaded!

This is a 180km round trip with three small towns to pass through and a dozen stop signs along the way. That number also includes launching the boat.

I just drove from Chicago to Denver. '92 super cab, 3.0 3.73 rear, 8280 GCW with a full tank of gas and me in the truck. Pulled it ok, and I averaged 15.5-17.5mpg, depending on where on I80 I was. Illinois is pretty flat, Iowa is up/down hills, and Nebraska is pretty flat, but mostly a constant uphill(gradual). Couldn't hold 70 on a hill, but on flat ground, I could do 70.

Oh, and it does take forever to get up to speed. :)

My truck:
Stock 2002 4.0L 2wd Super cab (160,000 miles)

Fuel economy when not towing:
City 20L/100km (12mpg)
Highway 11L/100km (21mpg)

On a recent trip to the cottage, I towed this:

There was a dirt bike in the back (~200lbs) and probably 400lbs of patio stones.

The trailer was full of mainly books. I have no idea of the weight of the trailer, but I'm sure its close to 3000lbs.
Total weight of everything is 3000 to 4000lbs.
I drove all highway while being very nice to the gas pedal, driving 55mph to 60mph and got 14.5L/100 (16mpg)

I have a 16foot Dovetail car transporter trailer, it weighs 1880lbs empty.

Towing it empty from Wyoming back to Pennsylvania with my 1987 supercab
(1993 4.0, 5sp & 4.10 gears) last September I averaged 18mpg at a steady
70mpg (On cruise control with the A/C running full blast)

I typically get 19mpg "around town" and have gotten a best of 22mpg @65mph)
with the 4.0

In the same truck with a 2.9 engine (same gears and trans)
I'd tyically get 24-26mpg on long highway trips.
Hitched to the trailer (unloaded) my mileage would drop to
around 16mpg, loaded with a 4000lb milling machine in early
december 1999 I managed to drag my mileage down to 11.8mpg
at 65mph

With 4.10 gears I don't seem to get the peak mileage I could
get with the 2.9, but the 4.0 doesn't get "dragged down" the
way the 2.9 does.

I'm about to regear the 4.0 because it's "unhappy" above 70-75mph
with the 4.10's and my 235 tires.

And if you've ever tried to cross Nebraska limited to 65-70mph...
