This seems like a stupid question but it there any way to tell what size crosspin a 8.8 has with out pulling the cover?

Also, what axles (applications, and vehicle models, only talking about 8.8s here) had which crosspins? I dont think it would be random so what were the determining factors?

Should be 7/8". Only early 8.8s (mid-ish 80s?) had the 3/4" pin I believe.

My 91 ranger 8.8 had the 3/4" crosspin, my 92 explorer 8.8 has a 7/8" crosspin

AFAIK:

Pre-1987 8.8s all have the 3/4" crosspin. 28 spline 8.8s use the 3/4" crosspin. All 8.8s that are 31 spline and made after 87 have a 7/8" crosspin.
