I have a 1990 Ford Ranger with a 2.9, V6 engine and A4LD Transmission with Overdriver. At 45 MPH the Tack reads 2000 RPM and at 55 MPH the tack reads 2800 RPM. Is this right, on other autos i had the tack read 2000 RPM at 55 MPH.

If you have a stock Ranger with something like 3.73s with 205/75-15 tires your overdrive isn't working.

I have a 1990 Bronco II running 215/75R/15 tires with 3.73 gears with the A4LD tranny. At 45 mph my tach says 1450-1850 & at 55 mph it's reading around 2150-2500 depending on the road condtions. At 70 mph it reads between 2850-3000 rpms. Sounds like you aren't going into Overdrive. My tranny goes into overdrive around 45-48 mph.

I have a 4.0L, but my RPM's were (before tire change) at 2800 at 60mph with stock tires (235-75-15's), 3.73 hears, and the A4LD while in 3rd gear. If I let it shift into over drive I think the RPM's were right around 2100-2200 if remember correctly. With my 33's, mine shifts into overdrive right around 50mph.

Sounds like your tranny isn't shifting into overdrive.

Yes, all of you were right, it was the Overdrive. I am getting it fix now.
