so since I am going to be doing this conversion, I don't want to do wheel adapters, so I am thinking getting an 9 inch....seems the only ones are the early bronco's that are the same approx with as the ranger 8.8. I have an explorer axle swapped into my ranger and I love the 31 spline....but are there axles out there that will carry the 31 spline carrier and still be only the 58 inches wide approx? or does anyone have any other ideas what I could use with my D44 SAS that I will use up front?

any local driveline shop should be able to narrow your rearend to the specs you need.

I havent run the axle yet but I have a 77 EB BB 9" (Currie housing built to 77 EB BB specs) with 31 spline shafts and 31 spline spool. I used the EB specs so I could buy off the shelf parts for the axle. I have off the shelf yukon alloy shafts. Any Big Bearing EB axle will be able to run 31 spline shafts, just change the 3rd out. I bought a preassembled third with my gear ratio (4.86) and 31 spline spool for 400 bucks all new.

you could find a set of full width F150 8.8 rear shafts and have them cut down and also the drums as well. then you will have 5x5.5 bolt circle with 31 splined axles still in your 8.8 Rear end.

Yea right

Thats easier said than done... I'm still searching for somewhere close to central SC to narrow axle housings....
