how to remove frozen front yoke u-joint caps

The caps on my truck and replacement are rusted solid. Ive soaked them in PB blaster but I am still bending my torx #30 bits. I can't get a solid bite with a wrench or socket either. What do you guys do?

Even a propane torch will work wonders getting those bolts out, works everytime I come across frozen u-joint bolts.

no heat!!!!!! hit the side of the yoke with a brass hammer! comes out like butter! hit right about the base of the "u" right under the cap its self.

Actually, a LITTLE heat (no more than propane) will melt the threadlocker that comes on those bolts from the factory. But you do risk melting the pinion seal, which is a HUGE PITA to replace.

If you're using cheap T-30s, get a good one. For this very reason (BTDT).

Yup, he's talking about the bolts that hold the straps on over the u-joint. Confused me at first as well.

Put some heat on the end of the yoke. You can go with a decent amount, as it takes a lot to heat the whole thing up enough to toast the seal. Just use your best judgement. And get some high quality bits.
